Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 10, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Skipper ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Discord bot Skipper Bot (Discord application ID 1491958000599175180, the "Bot"). By adding the Bot to a server or interacting with it, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Bot and remove it from your server.
This policy is provided in addition to, and does not replace, Discord's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, which also apply to your use of Discord.
2. Information We Collect
The Bot collects only what it needs to operate, and most data is stored only when you or a server administrator use the relevant feature. This includes:
- Identifiers — Discord user, server, channel, role, and message IDs, and server names.
- Settings — per-server and per-user configuration you choose (enabled features, permissions, channels, language, timezone, and similar preferences).
- Content you submit through features — text and media you provide to commands (such as suggestions, reminders, AFK statuses, moderation notes, applications, custom messages, and ticket/modmail conversations), plus content features are built to retain.
- Activity data — information features generate, such as leveling/XP, economy balances and history, achievements, and usage statistics.
- Presence and status — where a feature requires it (such as status-based roles, giveaway status requirements, or staff availability displays), your Discord online/offline status, custom status text, and current activity, read in real time to operate that feature.
- Optional data you opt into — such as your birthday.
The Bot does not collect passwords, payment information, account email addresses, or voice/video recordings.
3. Privileged Intents (Message Content, Presence, and Members)
The Bot uses Discord's Message Content privileged intent. This is required for features such as keyword/auto-responses, counting, highlights, quotes, translation, modmail, and AI commands to function.
The Bot also uses Discord's Presence and Server Members privileged intents. The Presence intent is used to read your online status, custom status, and current activity in real time where a feature requires it — for example, status-based roles (granting a role when you display a configured keyword or link in your status), giveaway entry requirements that check your status, and staff availability displays that show which staff are online. The Server Members intent is used to receive member join, leave, and update events and to access the member list for features such as welcome/goodbye messages, autoroles, moderation, and member statistics. Presence and membership data are processed to operate these features and are not retained beyond what a given feature requires.
The Bot processes message content to operate these features. It does not passively archive or permanently store all messages in a server. Message content is only persistently stored where a specific feature requires it (for example, a suggestion you submit, a reminder you set, an AFK status, a starred message, or a moderation note), as described in Section 2. Content used purely in transit (for example, a message read to trigger an auto-response or sent for translation) is processed to produce the result and is not retained as a permanent chat log.
The Bot does NOT collect, read, or store:
- Passwords or account credentials.
- Payment or financial information.
- Discord account email addresses.
- Voice or video media streams (the Bot uses voice connections only to play audio for the music and text-to-speech features and does not record voice).
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the data described above only to:
- Operate and provide the Bot's features.
- Store per-user and per-server settings and data so your configuration and progress persist.
- Maintain, debug, and improve the Bot.
- Enforce our Terms of Service and comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
5. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process data on the following bases:
- Legitimate interests: processing identifiers, settings, and feature data is necessary for the Bot to function once it is voluntarily added or used.
- Consent: for any optional data collection (such as birthdays), which you may withdraw at any time.
- Legal obligation: where processing is required to comply with applicable law.
6. How We Share Your Information
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your data. We share data only:
- With Discord, to the extent necessary to operate the Bot through the Discord API, governed by Discord's own policies.
- With service providers strictly necessary to host and run the Bot (for example, our hosting and database provider), bound by confidentiality obligations.
- With third-party processors used by specific opt-in features:
- AI features: when you use an AI command, the text and any image you provide may be sent to our AI provider (ElectronHub, which routes requests to underlying model providers such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic) to generate a response.
- Translation features: text you ask the Bot to translate is sent to Google Translate to produce the translation.
- Where required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
7. Data Retention
We keep data only as long as needed to provide the Bot. Server-specific configuration and data are deleted within 30 days of the Bot being removed from a server, or after a prolonged period of inactivity. Transient data (such as message content processed purely in transit) is held only briefly and is not retained as a permanent log. You may request earlier deletion at any time (see Section 9).
8. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect stored data against unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission or storage is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction (including under GDPR, UK GDPR, LGPD, and CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of your data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- (For California residents) know what personal information is collected and request its deletion; we do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us by email at contact@skipperbot.xyz or through our support server at https://discord.skipperbot.xyz by opening a ticket. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. Removing the Bot from your server will also stop further data collection for that server.
10. Children's Privacy
The Bot is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent in their country. Consistent with Discord's Terms of Service, you must meet Discord's minimum age requirement to use the Bot. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone below that age; if we learn we have, we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, announced via https://skipperbot.xyz or our support server. Continued use of the Bot after changes constitutes acceptance.
