Server Setup Guide

Configuring Skipper Bot

Everything runs through one command: /config, an interactive dashboard for setting up every feature on your server. This guide walks you through it from first launch to fine-tuning each module. Want a step-by-step guide for a specific feature? Pick a module from the sidebar.

Overview

Skipper Bot is configured entirely from an in-Discord dashboard. There are no text-based setup commands to memorise, you run /config, and navigate menus, modals, and dropdowns to turn features on and tune them.

Features are grouped into modules. Each module (Welcomer, Leveling, Tickets, …) is independent: you enable the ones you want and ignore the rest. Modules are organised into six categories so the dashboard stays tidy.

Good to know

Skipper is made to reply with the least bloat possible, so your chats don't flood with long bot responses.

One command

/config opens the whole dashboard.

6 categories

Moderation, Community, Engagement, Automation, Support, Miscellaneous.

41 modules

Each can be enabled, disabled, and individually configured.

Role-gated

Only admins and the roles you choose can open it.

The config wizard (first run)

The very first time you run /config on a server, the bot detects there are no settings yet and launches the Config Wizard. Only a member with the Administrator permission can start it.

  1. Run /config. A modal titled “Config Wizard” pops up.
  2. Choose access roles. Pick up to 3 roles that should be allowed to open and edit the config later. (Admins always have access regardless.)
  3. Choose an update channel. Select a text or announcement channel where the bot will post update messages and error notifications. The bot checks it has View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links there.
  4. Submit. The wizard saves your settings and confirms with a summary. From now on, running /config opens the full dashboard instead of the wizard.
Your server timezone is auto-filled from your personal timezone (if you've set one via the timezone command). You can change it later under Settings Timezone.

Enabling & configuring a module

Every module follows the same pattern, so once you've configured one you know them all.

  1. Open the module from its category (or via Search).
  2. Enable it. The first menu option toggles the module on (✅) or off (❌). A module must be enabled before its settings take effect.
  3. Adjust settings. Pick options from the module's dropdown. Each opens a channel picker, role picker, or a modal to type values.
  4. Done. Changes save instantly, there's no separate “save” button. A green confirmation appears for each change.
Disabling a module keeps your settings: they're stored and restored if you re-enable it later, so toggling off won't wipe your configuration.

Settings & info menu

The top dropdown on the home page holds server-wide tools:

ItemPurpose
SettingsCore server settings, config access roles, update channel, feedback channel, server timezone, and Family-Friendly mode.

Tips & troubleshooting

SituationWhat to do
“Only server admins can start the config wizard”The first setup must be done by someone with the Administrator permission.
“You do not have permissions to access the config”You're not an admin and your roles aren't in the access list. Ask an admin to add your role under Settings Access.
“You must enable the module first”Toggle the module on (✅) before editing its settings.
Buttons don't respondThe panel only works for the person who opened it. Run /config yourself.
Bot can't post in a channelMake sure the bot has View Channel, Send Messages, and Embed Links there.
Want a safety net before big editsUse Backup to DM yourself a JSON copy of the whole config first.
