How to set up a Discord bot in minutes with Skipper

Setting up a Discord bot used to mean juggling several single-purpose bots, each with its own dashboard and its own quirks. Skipper replaces that with one bot you configure entirely from inside Discord. Here's how to go from an empty server to a fully configured one in a few minutes.

Step 1: Add Skipper to your server

Head to the invite page and pick the server you want to add Skipper to. You'll need the Manage Server permission on that server to add a bot.

When prompted, keep the default permissions enabled. Skipper only asks for what its modules actually need, and you can always tighten things later per module.

Step 2: Open the dashboard

Everything in Skipper lives behind a single command. In any channel, run:

/config

This opens the configuration panel right inside Discord, with no separate website login and no copying tokens. From here you'll pick a category (Moderation, Community, Engagement, Automation, Support, or Miscellaneous) and then the module you want to set up.

Tip: only the people you allow can open /config. Restrict it to your admin or staff roles so members can't change server settings.

Step 3: Turn on your first modules

You don't have to enable everything. Skipper is built from 40+ modules you switch on individually, so start with the essentials:

• Moderation: warnings, automod rules, and logging so you can keep the server safe from day one.
• Welcomer: greet new members with a message, DM, and auto-roles.
• Leveling: reward active chatters with XP and role rewards.

Toggle a module on, then work through its settings. Each one is self-contained, so you can configure it and move on.

Step 4: Verify it works

Post a test message, trigger a welcome by having an alt join, or run a command to confirm the module responds. If something doesn't fire, it's almost always role hierarchy. Drag Skipper's role above the roles it needs to manage.
