How to add an AI chatbot to your Discord server
Turn Skipper into an AI chatbot your members can talk to. Pick the model, give it a custom personality and lock it to specific channels.
Want members to be able to ask a question and get a real answer without leaving Discord? Skipper's AI module turns the bot into a chatbot your community can talk to, with a model and personality you choose, kept to the channels you allow.
Where to find it
Run /config Category Miscellaneous AI, and toggle the module on. There are four settings.
Step 1: Pick a model
AI Model lets you choose the brain behind the replies:
- GPT (the default)
- Gemini
- Meta Llama
- Alibaba Qwen
- GPT (Web Search), for answers that draw on current information
Step 2: Give it a personality (optional)
Personality is a short brief (50 to 800 characters) that shapes how the bot talks: its tone, role, and what it should focus on. Write your own here; the default placeholder is just an example persona, so set something that fits your server. Profanity is rejected by the built-in filter.
Step 3: Keep it contained
- AI Channels: restrict AI chat to up to five specific text channels, so the bot isn't replying server-wide.
- AI Blacklist: block up to five roles from using AI chat entirely.
How members use it
Members simply mention (ping) the bot in an allowed channel and ask their question. Skipper replies conversationally. Short, low-effort messages are ignored by default, which keeps random one-word pings from triggering it.
Tips & gotchas
- If you set any AI channels, the bot only responds there; leave it empty to allow anywhere.
- Blacklisted roles are locked out even in allowed channels.
