How to set up birthday announcements in Discord

Little touches make a server feel like a community, and remembering birthdays is one of the easiest wins. Skipper can announce members' birthdays automatically, and even reward them on the day.

Where to find it

Run /config Category Community Birthdays, and toggle it on.

Step 1: Set the announcement channel

Open Channel and pick where birthday messages are posted. This has to be set first, since the reward options stay locked until it is. Make sure Skipper can send messages there.

Step 2: Add rewards (optional)

• Role: a birthday role, either permanent or just for 24 hours.
• XP: leveling XP for the birthday member.
• Economy: a gift of server currency.

Step 3: Personalise the message

Message lets you write up to ten different announcements (comma-separated); Skipper picks one at random each time so it doesn't feel copy-pasted. You can use variables like:

• {user}: mentions the member
• {user_name} and {user_nickname}
• {age} and {age_ordinal} (e.g. "21st")

How members use it

Members save their own birthday with Skipper's birthday command. On the day, the bot posts an announcement in your channel and hands out any rewards you configured, with no manual tracking required.

Tips & gotchas

• Birthdays are announced based on the member set timezone.
• XP, Economy and custom Messages are all locked until you set the Channel.
• The birthday role can be permanent or temporary, so pick the duration that fits.
• The reward role must sit below Skipper's own role and can't carry dangerous permissions.
• XP and currency rewards only do something if the Leveling and Economy modules are set up.
