Let members make custom roles without dangerous permissions

Members love having their own personal role: their name, their colour, maybe an icon. The problem is that Discord's Manage Roles permission is all-or-nothing. Hand it out so people can make a role, and you've also handed them the ability to edit and assign every role below them. That's a nuke waiting to happen.

Skipper's Custom Roles module solves this cleanly: the bot holds Manage Roles, and it creates and edits each member's role on their behalf. Members never touch role management directly. They just talk to Skipper, which enforces your rules.

Where to find it

Run /config Category Community Custom Roles, and toggle it on.

Step 1: Decide who's eligible

Eligibility is gated by Allowed, not by Discord permissions. You pick the requirements:

• Any combination of roles (for example, boosters or a level-30 role)
• Server Tag: members displaying your server's tag
• Vanity: members with your vanity invite in their status

Then set the method: members must have any of those, or all of them. Use Blacklist to bar specific roles or users outright, overriding eligibility.

Step 2: Control placement and edits

• Position: where the bot places every custom role (for example, under a specific staff role). This keeps member roles safely below your team's, no matter who owns them.
• Edits: which properties a member may change on their own role, from Color, Icon, Mentionable, Hoist and Position. Because the bot mediates every change, it can enforce these limits, something raw Manage Roles could never do.

Step 3: Set naming rules and sharing

• Prefix: force a naming pattern, e.g. Custom - {role_name}.
• Badwords, Alphabet (letters only) and Duplicate: keep names clean and unique.
• Share: how many members may hold one custom role (unlimited, disabled, or a set cap).
• Auto Delete: automatically remove a member's role when they no longer meet the requirements (for example, when they stop boosting).

How members use it

Eligible members run Skipper's custom-role command to create their role, set its name and colour, and, if you allow it, its icon or who else can share it. Every change runs through the bot and is checked against your rules. No member is ever granted Manage Roles.

Tips & gotchas

• Skipper's own role must sit above the Position you choose, or it can't create or place custom roles.
• The Edits setting marks which properties are forbidden, so leave a property unselected to let members change it.
• Turn on Auto Delete if you're gating roles behind boosting or levels, otherwise old roles linger after eligibility is lost.
