How to translate messages and images in Discord

If your server has members from around the world, a built-in translator removes the language barrier without anyone leaving Discord. Skipper can translate messages, and even the text inside images, three different ways.

Where to find it

Run /config Category Miscellaneous Translate, and toggle it on.

Step 1: Set your defaults

• Default Language: the target language for right-click and reply translations. Type any language name and Skipper matches the closest one (English by default).
• Reply with translate: allow members to reply to a message with the word "translate" to translate it.
• Hide Mode: return translations privately (ephemeral) so they don't clutter chat.

The three ways to translate

1. The /translate command. Members provide the text, a to language, and optionally a from language and a hide toggle. This one translates to whatever language they pick.

2. Right-click a message, then Apps, then Translate. This uses your server's Default Language. It works on plain text and on images, since Skipper reads the text inside an attachment or embed and translates it.

3. Reply with "translate". If you enabled the reply option, members just reply to any message with translate and Skipper handles it.

As a bonus, Skipper auto-detects and decodes Morse code without any setup.

How members use it

Most members will right-click a message and hit Translate, or reply with "translate". Both are instant and both use your default language. Power users can reach for /translate when they want to control the exact source and target languages.

Tips & gotchas

• The /translate command translates to the language the member chooses; only the context menu and reply features use your server Default Language.
• Very short messages (under three characters, with no image) won't translate.
• Hide Mode applies to the command and context menu; replies always post publicly.
• Image translation and Morse decoding work out of the box, so it's worth telling your members about them.
